This unique railway was built to two foot (610 mm) gauge on a zig-zag formation, to gain the maximum height within the shortest distance. The steam train journey is one of steep grades and includes many tight curves. Along the way travellers can enjoy native wildlife spotting and spectacular views. It is not hard to understand why this area has the name of a "Valley of a Thousand Hills", just before arriving at the top at "Summit Station" shelter (244m/805 ft above sea level), train travellers will be afforded a near 360 degree stunning panorama of the surrounding peaks and valleys.
The railway and museum has been developed by a group of dedicated volunteers over a twelve year period and is a not for profit incorporated body. All proceeds are put back into the development and running of this facility. Rolling stock consists of open and semi open carriages, weather can be variable, and change from 'Bottom Points' to 'Summit Station', therefore, for your comfort we suggest you be prepared. The property is a wildlife sanctuary, with many species of native birds and native mammals free ranging. Group visits welcome by prior arrangement.
